Up and coming West End in Downtown Greenville

It is being called a renaissance for the West End in Downtown Greenville.  Jenks Inc. Realty has plans for a $6 million project to three old industrial buildings situated between the Kroc Center and Flour Field along Markley Street.  The vision for the 62,000 square foot space includes new headquarters for Oobe Inc., offices, light industry, event space and a restaurant.  The three buildings which have the original heart-pine floors and brick walls are rich in history.  Constructed in the mid 1900s along the Norfolk and Southern railroad track, one building was used to make curtains and drapes while the others housed textiles and textile machinery.  Patrick's plan includes a plaza with outdoor seating where the loading dock once was and a rooftop restaurant.

The project, called Markley Terrace, is set to break ground this fall.  In addition, Lat Purser, a Charlotte developer, plans to build 150 apartments on top of parking at the corner of Rhett and Wardlaw streets.  Part of a master plan by the city in 2008 this area in the West End between Academy and Main has been called the Warehouse District.  The end goal is to achieve a "cool space" that will attract startup companies and entrepreneurs.
